Charitable donations is something that no one can say anything bad about. Being able to help a military family in need or veterans by giving clothes donations to organizations like the Military Order of the Purple Heart is a great way to show that you appreciate you they are and what they have done for our country. Here are a few common excuses and a great way to rebuttal if you hear someone using them, or perhaps you have used them yourself.
I don’t have time to donate.
This is the most common. Many people incorrectly think that it’s going to take days or weeks to go through their homes to find things to donate. However, that is not true. If you need a good house cleansing anyway, it might be a good opportunity but it doesn’t have to take any time at all. In fact, the best way to find things to donate is as you go about your daily life. Put a box in the corner of each room and in your car. As you are living your day to day life, you are sure to come across things that are in good shape but you don’t need and are just taking up space. Throw them in the boxes. Once the boxes are full, you can take them to an organization like the Military Order of the Purple Heart. It’s as simple as that. It may take a while to build up a good stock pile but you don’t have to wait until every box is full to donate them. Most organizations will take whatever you bring as long as it is still in usable condition.
I don’t know how to donate.
Start with your clothes, if that’s the easiest. All you have to do is find pieces of clothing, kitchen wear, furniture, etc that you don’t need or want or can do without. Next, figure out which charity you’d like to donate to. It could be the Military Order of the Purple Heart or something else. You can look online for the different values, belief systems and activities of various organizations. Once you’ve done that, find out where your chosen organization’s donation center is located and go drop off your items. If you don’t have time to drop off, many organizations actually have a pick up service. You can call or fill out a form on their website to schedule a pick up appointment. A truck from the charity will come to your chosen location and pick up the items for you.
The process of donating is to difficult.
It’s actually very simple. Once you’ve collected your items, you drop them off at a center or someone can pick them up for you. You can obtain a receipt from the charity worker that accepts your donations and then the process is complete. The workers are the ones that will go through the items and determine which are keepers and which are not and of those that are not, they dispose of them in environmentally friendly ways. But, you don’t have to worry about that part of it.
Bonus Rebuttal:
If anyone gives you an excuse that is not covered here, you can always tell them then they can actually write off their donations on the following year’s taxes. So, in essence, not only are they doing a good deed and helping someone in need, they are not giving as much money to the government and almost getting paid to donate. It’s pretty much a win/win when you think of it that way.
Donating clothes is probably the best item to donate because there is always a huge need for that; shoes and coats in particular. As Americans, we go through so many items of clothing and get rid of so many for no reason at all: too big, too small, changed my style, have two of the same; all of these reasons mean that the item is still in mint condition and can be donated to the Military Order of the Purple Heart or to someone else who doesn’t have the luxury of purchasing their own clothing items.
Let’s do something good: donate something today and it could possibly change a life tomorrow.
