Three Eye Problems That Sunglasses Can Prevent

How to measure ray ban lens size

Hundreds of people ask the same questions every summer, “can you replace sunglass lenses?” Chances are their sunglasses fell off at the beach and the gritty sand scratched up the lenses, or perhaps they simply sat on them, causing one of the lenses to fall out. Thankfully for these unlucky folks, not can you replace sunglass lenses, but replacing sunglass lenses is also easy.

Yet, what many people don’t know is that it’s a good idea to replace sunglass lenses every couple of years, regardless of how undamaged they may be. The simple fact of the matter is that if the owner doesn’t replace sunglass lenses, then the protection will wear out. That’s fine if you only wear your sunglasses for fashion, but considering the myriad of different ocular problems they can prevent, it’s always best to get some replacement sunglass lenses.

That being said, here are a few nasty eye conditions that you can develop unless you replace sunglass lenses!

Cataracts.

Cataracts are cloudy formations on the eye, and can fog a patient’s vision so terribly that reading and driving become impossible. At first, a person only needs to have stronger lighting or perhaps some prescription eyeglasses to help, but if they worsen over time (which they will), surgery will be needed to correct them.

Astigmatism.

Astigmatism is an imperfection in the eye’s curvature and can cause blurred vision. Though sometimes it can be mild enough for patients to go on without any treatment, sometimes it can be so pronounced that surgery may be necessary to correct it.

Pinguecula.

Pingueculas are yellowy, raised thicknesses on the eye’s white part, occurring close to the cornea’s edge on the side that’s more exposed to the sun. They can create the sensation that there’s something foreign stuck in your eye. Imagine constantly feeling like you have an eyelash caught on your eye and no matter how much you blink, it won’t come out!

To think, each of these nasty problems can be easily avoided if you simply replace sunglass lenses in your favorite shades. Luckily for you, sunglass replacement lenses are quite affordable, and easy to put in. If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments. More on this.
